I am delighted to be able to offer this online workshop as an alternative or addition to my in-person workshops, and to be able to share my practice with a wider audience. The content of the online workshop is based on the same activities as those of my in-person sessions, but goes into greater depth with more practical demonstrations and in-depth discussion of techniques. With just over two hours of detailed advice, you will learn the basics of painting and printing on fabric, a variety of ways of applying paint to cloth, and you will also gain insight into my personal approaches to the craft. Once purchased, the course is yours to access as many times as you like and for as long as you like. There is no expiry date.

This is a pre-recorded workshop tutorial, specifically created to walk you through all the methods, tools and materials I use to create my painted and printed textile work, and to provide you with a solid foundation for exploring and developing these techniques yourself. In this workshop I guide you through the processes I have found to be most successful and enjoyable, and deliver the skills and knowledge you will need to develop your own explorations of designing and decorating cloth, in your own time and at your own pace.

In this accessible course, you will learn about my favourite equipment and base cloths, the main techniques I use in my work, and tips and guidance for creating successful outcomes. I talk through the techniques as I work, explain and demonstrate how the images and marks have been created, and suggest ways in which the processes can be used most effectively.

The tutorial is divided into manageable sections, which can be revisited as many times as you like. With each section I show examples of the type of images that can be created, and then demonstrate the processes and techniques involved. The four main techniques covered are:

  • Direct painting with a variety of brushes
  • Printing with simple tools
  • Stencilling
  • Monoprinting

The workshop is delivered in a supportive and relaxed, yet organised, way with the hope that it will feel like spending time in my studio with me, sharing in my ideas and thoughts as I work.
